Competitions

The Club enters a number of postal competitions at National, County and Local level.

Summer Season

Typically, Summer shooting is outdoors at 50m and/or 100yds

  • NSRA National prone Team (10 rounds of 2 x 50m + 2 x 100yd cards per round)
  • NSRA 50m prone Team (10 rounds of 4 x 50m cards per round)
  • NSRA 50yd-Metric Team (10 rounds of 2 x 50m cards per round – MM.8 targets)
  • NSRA 3-positional competition (10 rounds of 2 Prone, 2 Standing and 2 Kneeling cards per round)
  • Civil-Service Sports Council (CSSC) Individual (9 rounds of 2 x 50m cards per round)

The club also runs two individual competitions during the summer, ideal for less experienced shooters. Both use a handicapping scoring method based on the individual’s previous average:

  • Secretary’s Cup (6 rounds of 1 card at 50m)
  • Carrier Cup (6 rounds of 1 card at 100yds)

Winter Season

All winter competitions are shot indoors at 25yds with the exception of the Polar Bear Trophy

  • National Short-Range Prone Team (10 rounds of 1 card per round)
  • Hampshire Prone Team (14 rounds of 1 card per round)
  • Hampshire Standing and Kneeling Pairs (14 or 15 rounds of 2 Standing and 2 Kneeling cards per round)
  • Hampshire Standing and Kneeling Individual (14 or 15 rounds of 2 Standing and 2 Kneeling cards per round)
  • Hampshire Elizabethan Knockout Team (an “own start” Team knockout competition)
  • Berkshire League Team (10 rounds of 1 card per round)
  • Southampton Association Prone Team (15 rounds of 1 card per round)
  • Civil-Service Sports Council (CSSC) Individual (9 rounds of 1 card per round)
  • Civil-Service Sports Council (CSSC) Team (9 rounds of 1 card per round)

Club Trophies

Club Competition Rules

Within the club, the A,B,C,D and E cups are awarded annually to individual shooters with the best average in their class, from shooting in a team or individual league.

The Vic Reeves Shield is awarded to the individual with the most improved average over the previous indoor season

The Pairs Trophy is awarded to pairs drawn at random based on a 25yd  ‘own start handicap’ competition, the number of rounds is based on entries

The Captain’s Trophy is a 25yd individual ‘own start handicap’ knockout, with a minimum handicap of  5 dropped shots or greater

The Secretary’s Cup is a 50m individual competition, using a handicapping scoring method based on the individual’s previous average

The Carrier Cup is a 100yd individual competition, using a handicapping scoring method based on the individual’s previous average

The Polar Bear Trophy is an individual competition of 40 shots at 50 metres on the first Sunday after New Year’s Day. The Macrea handicap system is used to allow for fair competition between members of all abilities.
